Ai Chi Basic with Gianni De Stefani & Prashanth C.G.

February 27, 2027

Ai Chi (Aquatic Tai Chi) is a total body relaxation and strengthening progression used for aquatic therapy. This aquatic technique is characterised by slow movement coordinated with deep breathing.
.

Ai Chi consists of 19 movements or katas, performed while breathing at a rate of about 14-16 breaths per minute. The first six arm movements are based on Qi Gong, with a relatively static and symmetrical body posture. The subsequent movements are based on Tai Chi, with continuous shifting of the center of gravity.

The progression moves through a series of “regulatory conditions” of increasing difficulty, from static to dynamic, symmetrical to rotatory and asymmetrical movement, and visual to non-visual (vestibular) control.

More on Ai Chi – Aquatic Tai Chi
Created in the early 1990s by Jun Konno, former coach of the Japanese Olympic swimming team and director of the renowned Aqua Dynamic Institute in Yokohama, Ai Chi brings the flowing principles of Tai Chi into warm water at 33–34°C.
Through slow, rhythmic and circular movements coordinated with the breath, Ai Chi promotes deep relaxation, body awareness, and a sense of inner balance. The gentle resistance and support of the water encourage us to become more attentive to our physical sensations, emotions, and inner experience.
