Colon Hydrotherapy (Wood’s Gravity Method)

In our modern age, the body’s inherent elimination systems are overloaded and stressed. This is due to rising pollution levels, unnatural diets, and hectic lifestyles, even for those who attempt to live healthy.

Inflammation, constipation and digestive issues are widespread ailments. This is not surprising as the colon is the primary gateway of detoxification, and carries the main load.

Gravity Colon Hydrotherapy is one of the most effective ways to support the body regaining its natural capacities and experiencing greater vitality and health.

The Woods Gravity Method, the original method of Colon Hydrotherapy, is a natural approach using gravity instead of machines to clean the colon through a continuous, gentle flow of warm water. It is a manual therapy that allows for feedback and dialogue, between the client, your body and the therapist.

The objectives of Gravity Colon Hydrotherapy are:

  • eliminating waste matter;
  • retraining and toning of the musculature of the colon, which is responsible for proper elimination (ideally 3 times a day);
  • complete detoxification of body, liver and blood through reaching the blind end of the bowel over a series of sessions.

A full cleanse encompasses a series of 15 sessions, over a period of three months, once in a lifetime. To maintain optimal functioning afterwards, this can be followed up by a session or two every six months.

To begin to understand the benefits of Wood’s Gravity Method, a minimum of three sessions is recommended. The duration of each session is one hour.


During the session, you’ll rest on your back on a massage table. A tank of body temperature water sits elevated above the treatment table, utilizing gravity for the flow of water.
The medically sterilized, stainless steel instrument is lubricated and gently inserted into the rectum with the client’s guidance. The water simultaneously enters and exits the body gently bathing the colon, as the therapist supports the release through abdominal massage. Your genitals are covered with a clean towel at all times.
Gravity Method functions as a “closed system,” which means elimination exits through a closed tube; there is no smell and no wetness.

Contra-indications: pregnancy or breastfeeding women, active/bleeding hemorrhoids, severe acute or chronic illness, abdominal surgery within the past 6 months or serious mental instability (including active eating disorders).



Before Your Colonics

Preparation to benefit most from the session:

  • Be well hydrated – drink more than usual (at least 3 litres/day) 5 days before and on the day of the treatment.
  • Be light. Choose light and hydrated food in the previous days.
  • Avoid gas-forming food or wrong food combinations (fruit alone and fat and proteins separate).
  • Absolutely no alcohol within 48 hours of your session.
  • You may skip a meal before or at least refrain from eating in the two hours prior to your appointment; you’ll intuitively want to eat lightly and healthy afterwards.
  • If possible, have a bowel movement before your session to allow better flow of water through the gravity-method process.

After Your Colonics

What should I expect over the next few days?

To feel clear, clean, empty and light!

Your experience will not prevent you from doing any exercise, driving, and eating; general living can continue as normal!

Depending upon your level of hydration and the inherent strength of your colon, you may or may not have a bowel movement the following morning. If affected, your bowels will return to normal after one or two days.

Humans are designed to eliminate, ideally once per meal. That’s three times a day, if you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner! If you don’t eliminate after food intake, you’ll become more aware of your real transit time — the time it takes from when you eat till you eliminate — and if it’s more than 24 hours, then that’s why you’re taking colonic sessions to improve it!

Are there any special dietary restrictions I should follow?

As a general rule, a day before and after your session, it is recommended to avoid: meat, dairy, sugar, fried foods, carbonated drinks, caffeine, processed foods and wheat products, due to the inflammatory and toxifying effect they have on the body.

However, the only hard line rule is not to drink alcohol within 48 hours of your session!

How many sessions do I need?

Colonics are best practised in a series, but one is better than none!

When fasting or cleansing, we recommend a series. Once the body starts releasing, it transports deeper toxins from different cells and organs and dumps them again into the colon. This is why multiple sessions are highly recommended for maximum benefit!
